Magic Hat Brewing Company was founded in 1994 in South Burlington, Vermont, earning a reputation for quirky, whimsical beers with an irreverent personality. Their flagship #9 — a self-described 'not quite pale ale' brewed with apricot — became one of the defining beers of the New England craft movement in the 1990s and early 2000s. Magic Hat was known for its colorful, art-forward packaging and carnival-inspired marketing before being acquired by North American Breweries (now Cervecería Costa Rica). #9 remains a beloved part of American craft beer history.
